We can discuss events. We can share news. We can support humanitarian work, vote and become involved locally. All of these actions can matter. Yet many people are left with the same question: is there also one simple action that is open to almost everyone?
That question became the starting point for Signup4Peace.
From powerlessness to a visible voice
The idea took shape when the war in Ukraine and the violence in Israel and Palestine made one feeling impossible to ignore: wars are decided far above ordinary people, while people and families carry the consequences.
Signup4Peace is an attempt to make opposition to war visible from below. A person can support one simple declaration: I am against war and support peaceful ways to resolve conflict.
There is no membership, donation or political programme. A person can sign anonymously. Name, email and country are optional, and public visibility requires an active choice.
Why this is personal
My commitment did not begin with a website.
My grandfather, Bjørn Egge, survived the Nazi Night and Fog system, Sonnenburg and Sachsenhausen. He later devoted much of his life to military service, international peace work and humanitarian leadership.
Preserving his story through the book A Warrior for Peace, documentary work, the family archive and the development of an international feature-film project made the question personal for me: what can an ordinary person do when war and violence feel overwhelming?
Signup4Peace is my attempt to offer one simple and safe action. The Bjørn Egge Project and Signup4Peace are separate initiatives, but his story is an important source of inspiration for this work.
Peace must also grow from below
Peace is not built only through summits, military alliances and diplomatic institutions. Lasting peace also needs communities, civil society and people who choose participation over indifference.
The United Nations describes teachers, volunteers, activists, neighbours and other ordinary people as everyday peacebuilders. UN guidance on peacebuilding also emphasizes inclusive and meaningful participation by communities and civil society.
Signup4Peace does not replace the UN, NATO, diplomacy, international law or humanitarian work. Its ambition is narrower: to make one fundamental position visible across national borders and political divides.
What a signature can — and cannot — do
A signature can make your personal position visible, become part of a privacy-preserving global count and contribute to a signal that becomes harder to ignore as it grows.
It cannot document what an entire population believes, guarantee political change or replace practical peacebuilding and humanitarian aid. This honesty matters. Credibility is not built by promising more than the numbers can show.
A small action is still an action
No single signature stops a war. But silence is not the only option.
You can help people affected by conflict. You can learn, challenge dehumanising language, support local initiatives and take part in democratic life. And if you share the simple belief that war must not be the answer, you can add your voice to Signup4Peace.
